In 2016, I moved from Austin to Eugene, OR and began a pet sitting business called Muddy Paws. I started with pet visits, and then added overnights in the pet owner's homes. The business grew quickly and I hired a pet sitter, then another, until I had between 12-15 at any one time. They did the overnights and daily visits and I opened a doggie daycare and boarding service in my home. (Above picture was taken in Eugene.) Soon, we became the #1 pet sitting service in Eugene. I had the cream of the crop of pet sitters who were dependable, reliable, and were lovers-of-all-pets. The daycare and boarding portion was unique in that the dogs were with me in my home and treated as if they were my own dogs. They weren't crated and left for hours at a time. They had interactions with other dogs and with humans throughout the day.
I had two favorite parts of my day: one was when the dogs found their best friends and would run all over the yard, tumbling and playing and playing keep-away with a stick or a ball or another toy; and the second one was when it was nap time. All the dogs would wait for me to lie down on the couch and then pile on top of me - one or two would be at my head, two at my feet, as many as could find a place on top of me, and the rest on the floor right next to the couch. I'd put on sweet relaxing music and we would all take an afternoon siesta.
In 2022, I sold my business and moved back to Austin to be closer to the sun. It was a difficult decision to make, to leave all my furry friends I'd made, but I needed the sun for my well-being, not something I knew I needed until I lived in a climate where it was cold and rainy 6+ months of the year!
Today, I'm in the Sweetwater Master Community in The Hills near Bee Cave, Spicewood, Rough Hollow and Lakeway, and offer the same #1 care for all pets.
